I knew Mike when we both worked for HealthSouth in Seattle. I'm shocked and saddened. I'll always remember what a good guy and great friend Mike was.

I served with Mike in the agroforestry program in Peace Corps Paraguay from 1988-90. Mike was a great person and great Peace Corps volunteer...and a wonderful friend to us all. He was very dedicated, hard working, caring, and knowledgeable. What a loss for humankind. My thoughts and prayers are especially with his family.

I knew Mike from PT school in 1997-98. I just looked through some pictures from then and found a trip we did up to Francie's cabin cross country skiing near Breckenridge CO. He was a friendly, huggable guy we could all take on as a second brother. I will think of him as I Sea Kayak on Lake Champlain up here in VT.
Cheers Mike!
Love Pamela

I met Mike through the Washington Kayak Club, as an expert paddler teaching us less experienced wannabe's. Also as a co-boardmember of the same. He impressed me from my first encounter through the last time we met, as a very thoughtful, caring person, with more wisdom than many will ever realize. His non-chalant manner, and genuine interest in helping others at whatever level of ability, inspired confidence in those he was teaching. I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of his accident, and will sorely miss any further opportunity to be in his presence in this community. My thoughts and best wishes go to his family, in their daunting task of moving on after this loss.

Mike became a friend of mine in Peace Corps Paraguay quite a number of years ago. At that time I remember him demonstrating a kind and gentle wisdom as I got to know him that I still recall well. My wife, Sheana Bull, and I were able to spend time regularly with Mike later when he lived in Denver for a time while studying physical therapy here. He always indicated he would be moving out west for "good boating" and a life he was seeking there. It sounds like he found it and lived it well. Will sorely miss his presence.

I knew Mike from 21 days on the Colorado River in 2002. Early one morning, while warm air hugged the river and sunbeams played on the cliff faces, three of us, Mike, I and probably Jim Malles hiked upstream to see bighorn sheep heading down for a sip at the river. It was quiet. Nothing needed saying. I knew Mike as the embodiment of the anonymous phrase that "Still waters run deep".

I knew Mike from the Peace Corps and he was always such a positive, upbeat, warm and generous person. He certainly made a difference and brought light into the world.

Leah,
Mike was such a caring and compassionate man. The first time I met Mike was when you came to stay with us for Jennifer's wedding. I could tell the person who didn't want to get married until she was 30 would someday marry this kind man. When you would say something funny, Mike would have such a big smile on his face. When he would look at you, I could see how much he loved you. Mike always wanted to make sure you were happy and taken care of. I remember he would sit quietly and listen to our silly girlish conversations when you came
to visit. He never complained about spending time with the three gigling girls who talked about the fun they had in college. I don't think he cared what he did during his trips to St. Louis, as long as he was being with you.
The two of you were so good for each other. He was truly a wonderful husband to you. I am so sorry you didn't have more time together. I love you and I am thinking about you.
Love,
Jean

I was in the Peace Corps with Mike back in 1988--it is hard to believe that 20 years later he is no longer with us. I am saddened by this unexpected death. I have photos that I would like to send to his wife. Please send me an address. (bonk@alum.mit.edu, (603) 340-3524. Laura Bonk
