Burial shrouds offer another natural alternative to the biodegradable casket especially when utilized for a natural or green burial. It is often considered a ceremonial wrapping for the body. Some shrouds are made of studier fabric so that the body can be easily lifted and carried. Decorative shrouds are typically made of silk and other natural fine fibers used for draping the body during a vigil. Traditionally, burial shrouds are made of white cotton, wool or linen, though any material can be used so long as it is made of natural fiber.
