Richard "Dick" Hearsey

July 22, 1939 - November 15, 2023

Richard "Dick" Hearsey peacefully passed away on November 15th in Shoreline, WA. He is survived by his loving wife, Colleen Clayton Hearsey, and his two sons, James and Simon. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Barr, in 1973.

Growing up with Dick was an experience filled with humor and love. He was an active individual who delighted in sharing his numerous pursuits. Sailing, RC airplanes, hiking, climbing, skiing, and bicycling were among his passions. In retirement, he embraced his love of bicycling and completed a 600 mile bike trip through the heart of Australia. His radiant smile and twinkle in his eyes will be fondly remembered.

Born in Marlboro, England, in 1939. At the age of 16, he apprenticed at Douty Equipment and Fuel. Following his apprenticeship, he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) from Gloucestershire Technical College in 1961 and an advanced ME degree from Imperial College London and joined Bristol Siddely Engines, Ltd. While working there he met Janet and they married in 1964. Their son James was born in 1965.

They immigrated to Boston, MA in 1966 and Simon was born in 1967. Dick made significant contributions at Northern Research and C Group as a Sr. Engineer from 1969 - 1971 by writing a pioneering axial turbomachinery aerodynamics program, HT0300, which stood as the most accurate predictor of turbine engine performance based on compressor and turbine blade design until his retirement. The family later moved to Ohio for work at Ingersoll Rand, then to PA where he ran his own consultancy.

Dick moved to Bellevue, WA in 1978 to work for Boeing and retired as the Lead Propulsion Engineer for Boeing Commercial.

A kind, compassionate and loving father, Dick will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
