Dorothy Rose Lang-Hansen

September 12, 1934 - October 20, 2023

Dorothy was beloved, an outgoing, happy person with a true zest for life. If you were blessed enough to know her, you knew her as your friend.

In 1952 at age 17, Dorothy married Guilford Hansen in Monroe, Washington. They raised four sons and one daughter in Marysville. She and Guil enjoyed camping and fishing with friends and family. Her kids and grandkids have the best memories of these outings and continue the outdoors tradition with her great-grand kids.

A highlight for Dorothy and Guil was going to Sekiu and Neah Bay fishing with the Farmers. Mom always kept a journal of how many fish they caught! She also enjoyed canning peaches, pears, pickles and even salmon every season and did this for many years.

Growing up in the Hansen household usually meant you participated in sports. There wasn’t a wrestling match, football, baseball, or softball game Dorothy didn’t attend. With kids in different grades participating in sports at the same time, meant figuring out how to attend all their events. It was something of a challenge but somehow, she always figured out a way to make it happen. Watching one event, then speeding off in another direction to make the next. And she wasn’t afraid of giving her opinion to a referee if she didn’t agree with a call, even though her knowledge of the sport was sometimes limited.

After raising her children, she went back to school and earned her cosmetology license. She had a salon in her home for several years. She also taught cosmetology at Everett Community College. She really enjoyed teaching and the students and staff loved her.

She was an incredible cook and loved to entertain. The door was always open for anyone who stopped by and she usually had something on the stove cooking. The Hansen’s was always the house her kid's friends felt comfortable going to. It was not unusual for many of them to be sleeping over on weekends.

After 38 years of marriage, Guil suddenly passed away. Dorothy then did a lot of traveling. She relished going on ocean cruises and trips around the world.

Mom courageously suffered from chronic back pain for many years having had four back surgeries throughout her life. She rarely complained. She was one of the toughest ladies we knew which is probably why her nickname was “The Queen.”

She was a spiritual person and never swayed from her faith in God. She grew up attending Catholic school in North Dakota. She belonged to St Mary’s Catholic Church in Marysville for many years. Her children were all baptized and confirmed in the church as well.

Her family meant everything to her. She had a special relationship with each and every one of her grandkids. Seeing them as well as the great-grandkids always put a smile on her face.

Mom leaves behind her children, Rod (Kristi); Jeri (daughter-in-law); Mike (Sue); Mark; and Janie Brem (Wayne); her nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Bernice Farmer, and brothers George and Norbert Lang.

She was preceded in death by her husband Guil; son Randy; grandson Zachary; and siblings Darlene Delap and Robert Lang.

We will cherish every memory and the endless love our mom and grandma gave to us. She will be greatly missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
