Obituaries

Patricia Jean Handyside

April 08, 1932 - October 13, 2016

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother

Pat passed away peacefully at home on October 13th.  She was born to Thomas and Elizabeth Dudley of Plymouth, Michigan in 1932.  She grew up in Plymouth, where she graduated high school early in 1949.

Pat met her husband George at a community dance hall in Wayne, Michigan. After he offered to drive her home, she invited him in for a sandwich. That was the beginning of a sixty-eight year relationship of love and laughter.

Pat graduated from Cleary College secretarial school in 1951.  Soon, she and George married and began their family in Garden City, Michigan. They moved to Edmonds, Washington after George accepted a position with Boeing.  Pat’s love of art led her to join Gallery North in Edmonds where she displayed her paintings for many years.  She joined the Gallery’s board initially as secretary and eventually became their chairperson.  Pat volunteered as secretary for many organizations throughout her life, and she worked as a receptionist in a doctor’s office.

Pat loved thrift store shopping, and she accumulated an assortment of unusual wrist watches over the years. Decorating for the holidays was a passion of hers.  She had an unparalleled talent for gift wrapping that made recipients of her gifts feel special.

In 2002 Pat and George became “snowbirds” spending their retirement years wintering in Arizona, and visiting family in Washington during Arizona’s hot summers.

Pat is survived by her husband, George, son David (Elaine), Daughter Kimberly (Eric) and grandchildren Erika, Cameron (Laurie), Tyler (Beth), Thomas, Elizabeth and Alex, and great-grandchildren Harley and Heather Bell.
