Daniel Charles O’Hern

April 28, 1961 - May 26, 2020

It is with immeasurable sadness we announce the tragic loss of Daniel C O’Hern to a sudden, unforgiving illness. He was a loving husband and father and a wonderful and dear brother to his many siblings. Dan was born in Syracuse, NY to Garry and Janet O’Hern. He was the seventh of ten children.

He graduated from East Syracuse Minoa High School. He played football and lacrosse for the school teams…. His love for lacrosse would be an integral part of his adult life as he spent many years coaching lacrosse in the Seattle area where he settled as a young man. In Seattle, he met and married the absolute love of his life, Monika Brunnenkant, and with her, they had two children, Ian and Tess, also the great loves of his life. Dan was a Journeyman Plumber with UA#32 Plumbers and Pipefitters in Seattle. He loved his trade and took great pride in his work.

He was an avid fisherman, a hobby he loved as he loved the natural wonders and beauty of his adopted state of Washington. He took his fishing seriously and was proud of his smoked salmon and home cooked dinners. Dan was a devoted father to his two children. He was a long time program leader, coach for many of Ian’s teams, board member, and Harvey Cup founder for the Snohomish Boys Lacrosse Club. Tess was the apple of his eye and will forever remain so.

After meeting on a blind date Dan and Monika have spent many years together. Dan won Monika’s heart by remodeling her bathroom as a housewarming present for her first home in Everett. Pretty sure he made up his mind right away to never leave that beautiful woman, EVER. And so, their adventures began, you could say, with a remodel. They built a beautiful life together for themselves and their children, something Dan was, rightly, immensely proud of.

Dan also leaves behind six brothers and three sisters, Garry and James O’Hern of Huntington Beach, CA, Gail (Franco Rizzo) of East Syracuse, NY, Jean (Bruce Moore) of Fayetteville NY, Mary (Mike Armstrong) of Syracuse, NY, Patrick O’Hern (Gina) of East Syracuse, NY, William O’Hern (Chris) of Webster, NY, Martin O’Hern of Rochester, NY, and Brian O’Hern (Chris) of Canastota, NY. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who loved him and cherish his memory. He is also survived by his brother in law, Kurt Brunnenkant, and his five children.
