QuinSerra Roberts Stanley

QuinSerra passed away, embraced by her family, at home in Clinton on May 3rd. She had been cared for at home with the help of Hospice of the Northwest for many months.
Born on February 18, 1948 in Albany, Alameda County, California she is the youngest of three children to Thelma Marye (Johnson) and Stanley Irving Roberts. Named Jolene at birth, she changed her legal name to QuinSerra later in life. Her father was a welding engineer for the Navy. The family moved to Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1957. Graduating from high school in 1965 she obtained a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and Special Education in 1973 from the University of Nebraska and taught in Nebraska and Nevada through several appointments with the Holy Order of MANS. Returning to New Hampshire she became a massage therapist in 1985. In 1987 on a cross-country road trip with her sister, she discovered the beauty and intensity of the community of Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Marrying Jim Fisher, they built a home overlooking the Beaver River around 1990 and earned her Masters Degree in Health Studies from the University of Arkansas in 1996. In 2003 she left Eureka Springs for health reasons and moved to Stuart Island, Washington with her sister Jeannette. Now she had become a northwesterner and met William (Bill) Stanley. They married on May 17, 2011 and lived in the Maxwelton Creek Co-housing community of South Whidbey Island, Washington until her death. She was always ready for the next great adventure.
QuinSerra is remembered most for her joyously expressive smile and laugh. She took delight in conversation with friends and strangers. She had a keen eye for the beauty of place, things and people. A deep awareness of spiritual life led her through much discovery within herself and helped others on their own journey. She was an active volunteer in many areas including Unity of Whidbey Church, Threshold Singers, Hui Ho’olana of Molokai, Whidbey at Home and Enso House.
She is survived by her husband Bill, sister Jeannette, brother Dennis S., three nephews, two grand- nieces, stepdaughter Marie Blaine and step-grandchildren Hannah and Ruben.
A simple green burial took place in the small cemetery of her beloved Stuart Island.
