What is a Home Funeral?
A Home Funeral is Photo Courtesy of Ian Barrett grandchildren gathered together with crayons, markers and glitter pens creating a tribute on the cover of a cremation casket to their grandfather. a mother lovingly washing and dressing her daughter and placing shoes on her feet for the very last time. siblings gathered together in their childhood home to share stories and celebrate the life of their father. A generation ago, the baby boomers brought back home births. Recent decades have seen a similar resurgence in families providing end-of-life care to family members through home hospice. As a natural extension, more families are choosing to care for the body of their beloved in the home after death has occurred. Quite simply, a Home Funeral is one that is held in a private home instead of a funeral home. The deceased remains in their home typically for a period of one to three days. Family members bath, dress and drape the body or can ask for assistance from A Sacred Moment. Instead of being embalmed, the body may remain home lying in a natural state using other options. Final disposition of the body may be either by cremation or burial. At A Sacred Moment we believe Home Funerals allow time for the family to slow down and decide the pace that they want to proceed through this significant event, rather than being rushed into decisions that come at a high emotional and financial price. |
