Pre-planning a Home Funeral

Unlike traditional funeral homes, A Sacred Moment is not in the business of pre-selling a funeral, which requires you or your family to pre-pay. We do however strongly believe in pre-planning a Home Funeral.

Because a Home Funeral typically requires more hands on involvement from family members and close friends, families need to consider several factors in deciding if a Home Funeral is right for them. At A Sacred Moment, we strive to assist families in any way we can, but typically there will be added responsibility for family members and close friends.

The time of death is not when a family should first be considering the idea of conducting a home funeral. Typically, given the increased involvement from family members and close friends, they need time to understand, accept and plan for this potential added responsibility. Pre-planning a Home Funeral with A Sacred Moment will give you peace of mind, because the questions that inevitably arise with a Home Funeral will have been answered. When your loved one passes, you and your family will want to be able to support each other during this time of grief, instead of being concerned with planning details and making decisions.

For those of you who are caregivers and know that the time is not too distant for a funeral to occur, we offer you these forms to help you make decisions now, and not at the time of death when you might feel overwhelmed. Often someone who is near death is relieved to know that decisions have been made and are in order. In addition, when A Sacred Moment assists you in planning a home funeral we utilize a Home Funeral Planning Guide we review with you or your loved one.

Pre-planning a Life Celebration

It is becoming more common these days for people to pre-plan not only their funeral arrangements, but their own Life Celebration service too. At A Sacred Moment, we are in the business of making sure that the Life Celebration service you want is the one you will have. What is your favorite song? How would you like to be dressed? Is there a favorite poem that you would like to have read? Is there a favorite food or libation you would like served to your guests? A Sacred Moment can help plan the Life Celebration you desire. We have created a planning guide to use when we meet with you and your family which suggests questions you may want to ask yourself, or ponder with your loved ones, about what the experience of your Life Celebration might look and feel like.

Pre-paying Alternative

We strongly encourage families to consider setting up a bank account, which will "pay on death" to the person you designate to take care of your final arrangements. You will retain full control of your money and earn interest as well. There are certain circumstances for those who are disabled or about to go on Medicaid, where pre-payment might make sense. Be sure to consult a financial advisor before signing a pre-payment contract with a funeral home.
